A Few Things You Need To Know About Starter Motor

  • An Introduction to Starter Motor

The starter motor has the characteristics of wide application, simple structure, convenient operation, easy maintenance, and low cost. It is currently widely used in marine medium-speed diesel engines. The ring gear drives the diesel engine to rotate. Of course, this starting device also includes a pressure-reducing valve, a starting solenoid valve, and other equipment. When the starter solenoid valve is opened, the 3MPa high-pressure air supplied from the outside will pass through the self-configured pressure reducing valve to reduce the air pressure to about 1MPa. , meshes with the flywheel ring gear. When fully meshed, the high-pressure air of the main circuit begins to enter the inside of the starter motor, drives the internal piston, and drives the internal turbine impeller through the piston to drive the pinion to rotate, and the pinion drives the meshing flywheel ring gear. , The flywheel ring gear drives the flywheel, the flywheel drives the crankshaft, and the crankshaft drives the piston to reciprocate up and down, so that the fuel is burned under compression, thereby helping the diesel engine to start successfully.
The working principle of the starter motor can be illustrated by the working principle of its main component, the DC motor. A DC motor is a device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. The principle is that a charged conductor is subjected to electromagnetic force in a magnetic field. Because the torque generated by one coil is too small and the rotational speed is unstable, many coils are actually wound around the armature of the motor, and the number of commutator segments increases as the number of coils increases. To ensure adequate torque and stable speed.

  • Maintenance Points

We have already talked about some common faults and possible causes of the starter. Its life depends to a large extent on the driver's use and maintenance, so as a driver, how should we do the maintenance of the starter? Woolen cloth? The key is to do the following:

  1. Apply a small amount of Vaseline to the contacts to keep the wires in good contact, remove dirt and oxides from the contacts, and prevent rust after connection.
  2. To protect the battery, each start should not exceed 5s, and the interval between two starts should be 2 minutes.
  3. Depress the clutch pedal when starting to neutralize the transmission.
  4. After the engine catches fire, turn on the start switch immediately to reduce engine idling and wear of the single clutch.
  5. Please lubricate the bearing with oil regularly, and pay attention to check the contact and static contact of the movable contact plate.
  6. If teeth and smoke are found at the beginning, they must be diagnosed before starting and removed on time.
  7. When not starting, there should be a distance of 2.5 ~ 5mm between the end face of the transmission gear and the end face of the flywheel ring gear. This can be adjusted by securing the pad between the flange and the engine mount.

  • Common Error

  • Weak Starter

Possible reasons are as follows. (1) The battery is dead. (2) The starting circuit is in poor contact, (3) The single clutch slips. (4) The transmission gear or flywheel ring gear is damaged or the flywheel ring gear is loose. (5) The influence of armor friction on the magnetic field, such as excessive bearing wear or armor shaft bending, etc.

  • There are upper teeth, can't bite

Possible reasons are as follows. (1) Severe wear or "collapse" of the drive gear and flywheel ring gear. (2) The arc of installation, loosening and bending of fixing screws, etc., make the false shaft not parallel to the center line of the flywheel. Armored shaft.
